18th birthday party
June 7, 2016The End of an Era for St Stephens Primary School

At Austin’s Ices, we believe that you’re never too old to enjoy a big helping of Mr Whippy. So, when we got a call from one Mrs Julie Rowlands asking us to bring our signature blend of sweet indulgence and cool refreshment to her retirement party, we weren’t surprised in the slightest. After all, who says ice-cream is just for kids?
While stand firmly behind that point of view, our initial enthusiasm for the trend-bucking nature of this particular job might have been a bit hasty. As it turns out, the role Julie was retiring from was her position as headmistress for St Stephens, a CofE primary school in Bury. Her last day occupying the post was fast approaching, and Julie was looking a fun, memorable way to say a grateful and heartfelt goodbye to pupils and staff. Naturally, she decided that treating everybody to some frosted treats was the way to go, and called upon the services of the finest ice-cream mobilers in the North West, Austin’s ices.
We headed down to the school on a particularly crisp winter day in the middle of January. Temperatures weren’t exactly soaring (it had even snowed the day before!), but the gorgeous clear blue sky and beaming sunshine were more than enough to keep everyone in great spirits. When we arrived, we met Julie in person for the first time. Right away, it was clear that she wanted to pull out all the stops and make the occasion really special, so we invited her to join our team for a day. We gave her a tour of our immaculate ice-cream van, showed her the ropes and taught her a few tricks of the trade so that she could dish out our supreme selection of iced goodies herself.
One by one, each class came out and chose their favourite chilled delight, before taking a class photo in front of our van. All in all, Julie had the pleasure of serving around 250 beaming faces. And from the huge smile that she herself was wearing throughout, we think it’s safe to say that she loved every second of it! She even topped the day off by taking the van for a couple of laps around the playground (with chimes blaring, of course).
We’d like to thank Julie and everybody at St Stephens for their amazing hospitality. We were happy to be involved, and hope we played our part in giving Julie the send-off she truly deserves. From everyone at Austin’s Ices, we wish her the best of luck for the future!
